Description

Fredericksburg area bakers are invited to help celebrate America’s 250th anniversary by participating in the Flavors of the Farmers Market Pie Baking Competition on Thursday, July 2.

Hosted by the City of Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the Fredericksburg Farmers Market, the competition is open to amateur bakers of all ages and highlights fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Registration is open from May 1-June 26. There is no fee to enter, and participants are limited to one entry per person. Pie entries must be baked at home from scratch and include a main or primary ingredient purchased from the Fredericksburg Farmers Market. A receipt from the market and a completed recipe card are required with each entry.

Pies must be dropped off Thursday, July 2, between 10 a.m. and noon at the John Wm. Klein Room, 115 N. Crockett St. Judging will take place at 1 p.m. and will be closed to the public. Winners will be announced by 3 p.m. The competition features two categories — sweet and savory — with first, second and third place prizes awarded in each category.
