Step Into History: Edson's Ridge

Saturday, September 12, 2026 10:00 AM - Sunday, September 13, 2026 3:00 PM (CDT)

Description

From September 12 through 14, 1942, United States Marines fought desperately to hold a single ridge on Guadalcanal that would determine the outcome of the campaign. Nearly overrun, they held their ground, securing a critical victory that helped turn the tide of the war in the Pacific.

This FREE Outpost program invites visitors to step back in time with living history volunteers portraying the men of the 1st Raider Battalion, also known as Edson’s Raiders. Guests will learn about the brutal fighting on Guadalcanal and gain insight into the experiences of the Marines who defended the ridge under extreme conditions. Outpost programs are educational, drop-in experiences held on select Saturdays at the Pacific Combat Zone, located at 508 E Austin St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624. Visitors of all ages are welcome to stop by, ask questions, and engage directly with history.
