The Fredericksburg Food and Wine Festival’s Preview Week wrapped up last Sunday. Over 850 patrons enjoyed excellent food, wine and spirits at 9 FBG venues. All the venues, wineries, and restaurants covered the costs of labor, food, wine and spirits so that 100% of the Preview Week proceeds will be donated to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. Also, through the generosity of Happy State Bank’s matching fund the festival’s donation will be doubled.

Women for Wine Sense kicked off the week with a wine pairing dinner at Alla Campagna. Five wineries participated: Rustic Spur, Michael Ros, Hilmy Cellars, Barelle Cellars, and Pedernales Cellars. Each wine was expertly paired with courses exquisitely prepared by the Alla Campagna culinary crew.

Tuesday night, Dr. and Mrs. Richard Becker along with winemaker Jon Leahy and his wife Jody hosted 28 patrons in Becker Vineyards’ private wine cellar. The evening was a redux of White House dinners when Becker wines were poured during President George W Bush’s tenure. A memorable evening with marvelous music by a master cellist followed by a superb culinary and wine experience.

Dietz Distillery hosted a fun event Wednesday evening called Shuck, Shake and Sip with fresh oysters, Mystic Lobster Rolls, martinis and DJ curated music. It was a relaxing evening at the lovely Fischer and Wieser farmstead where guests could choose the buzz of the distillery, the quiet of nature or sway to tunes.

Tallow and Vine was a fitting title for the Thursday event at the Main Street tasting room of Ferris and Fletch winery. Supplying the Tallow was Chef Huffman of Mesquite at the Warehouse providing tasty treats from the grill and smoker. Ferris and Fletch’s wine pairings were fabulous and enjoyed by all.

Slate Theory Winery hosted a festive yet uniquely quiet affair in their wine cave Friday night—a Silent Disco! Attendees wore head phones and could choose their dance music from three channels. The cave was fairly quiet but the bobbing bodies and flying arms signaled that dancers were enjoying the tracks. It was the perfect venue for the nouveau disco concept.

Chef Keidel and the Saloon in the Albert Hotel hosted a delightful Boozy Brunch Saturday morning. From the deliciously candied brisket kolaches to pecan cinnamon rolls, all palates were satisfied. DJ Cassandra spun her magic to keep the crowd entertained, and no one had to leave the party hungry, thirsty or wanting for more.

The annual Fredericksburg Quesӧff attracted nearly 300 guests to taste-test queso from Hill and Vine, Leroy’s TexMex, June Bug, Emi’s on Austin, Hondo’s, Los Tios, Casa Chloe, and Fresh Pickens. Leroy’s successfully defended their title as the best Queso. Grand Central at Milam’s Great Lawn was once more the ideal venue for all the families who attended the event.

Sunday morning, Halter Ranch hosted a true Hill Country style brunch. Chef Steve served up delicious, locally-sourced dishes – and who doesn’t like the quintessential Texas dish, Fried Quail and Waffles? Halter Ranch also poured their new Sparkling Texas Rose. The smiles and laughs were abundant as friends—old and new—enjoyed the event.

The final crescendo of Preview Week was held at El Quincho, Fredericksburg’s outdoor elevated dining experience. This where Argentine asado meets Hill Country swagger. Guests enjoyed flame-grilled tapas, Hill Country Wines and celebrated seven days of raising funds for the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. 100% of the Preview Week proceeds will be donated.

Since the July 4th floods, businesses in and around Fredericksburg have donated over $500,000 including a second matching fund donation made by Texas Regional Bank.

Hill Country Strong!
