2,000 and counting, fingerprinting/background check sessions at the Fredericksburg Chamber office since September 2024.

With the help of Representative Ellen Troxclair’s staff, we were able to secure an agreement with IdentoGO® to provide fingerprinting for background checks that are required for over 200 occupations in Texas. Before we began offering this service, the closest IdentoGO locations were in Austin, San Antonio or Sonora.

Here are some common jobs and licenses in Texas requiring IdentoGO fingerprinting and background checks:

Education and Childcare: Teachers, school counselors, substitute teachers, preschool teachers, and other school-related staff are frequently required to undergo fingerprint background checks for employment.

Healthcare: Licensed vocational nurses and other healthcare professionals are often required to be fingerprinted before receiving state licensure or employment. 

Legal and Financial Services: Attorneys, legal workers, financial services employees, and those in banking and mortgage industries may need fingerprint clearance for licensing or employment. 

Real Estate and Construction: Individuals seeking licenses in real estate or construction industry also require fingerprints for background checks. 

State Agency or Contractor Positions: Many jobs with state agencies, particularly those involving sensitive data or regulated industries, require fingerprinting and criminal history checks via IdentoGO. 

Social Services: Workers in social services and adoption services are also among those commonly required to undergo this process. 

Security, Law Enforcement, and TSA: Some security positions, law enforcement jobs, and roles related to transportation security and hazardous material handling need IdentoGO clearance. 

Texas Licenses Requiring IdentoGO Fingerprinting:

Insurance License: All new insurance license applicants must complete fingerprint background checks through IdentoGO, which submits prints to both the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and FBI databases. 

Real Estate License (TREC/TALCB): Anyone applying for or renewing a real estate or appraiser license with the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) or Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (TALCB) must provide fingerprints through IdentoGO. 

Security Officer License (Level 2 & 3): Applicants for Texas Level 2 and Level 3 security licenses are required to complete fingerprinting at IdentoGO locations as part of their license process. 

Motor Vehicle Dealer License (TxDMV): The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) requires some dealer license applicants to complete fingerprinting through IdentoGO when notified by the Motor Vehicle Division. 

Behavioral Health Providers (BHEC): All applicants for licenses governed by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (counselors, therapists, etc.) must use IdentoGO for fingerprinting. 

Physicians (Texas Medical Board): As of September 1, 2023, physicians are required to provide fingerprints via IdentoGO for license and permit renewals. TMB advises that only IdentoGO is accepted for fulfilling the fingerprint requirement. 

The dues paid by our Chamber members allow us to offer this service to our community. We have one full time staff member who dedicates over 60% of her time processing fingerprints. While we do receive fees per session from IdentoGO the revenue covers only roughly 25% of the position’s wages. 

Next time you drop off your children at day care center or have a blood test or meet with your insurance agent, please remember it is the members of the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce that made it possible for these professionals to have their fingerprinting done here in town.
