Zero to $30 million

Zero to $30 million

A humble and thankful “hats off” to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country! Within hours

of being alerted to the devastation occurring on July 4th, Auston Dickson and his team set up the Kerr

County Flood Relief Fund. Just one week later, they announced that $30 million was raised. The first

disbursements of $5 million will go to individuals and families affected by the flood, support First

Responders, Local Businesses, crisis response and 21 non-profit organizations.

Also moving quickly was a united organization of Kerr Economic Development Corporation, City of

Kerrville, Kerr County, Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB), Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce,

Kerrville Convention & Visitors Bureau (KCVB), and the West Kerr Chamber of Commerce:

The US Chamber of Commerce and Texas Association of Business (Texas Chamber) has organized weekly

calls with chamber Presidents across the hill country to support all areas affected by flooding (Kerr

County, Comfort, Fredericksburg, Burnet, San Saba, Mason, and others). These calls identify key issues

for small businesses in the Hill Country recovering from the flooding. The US Chamber coordinates

communications with Federal officials to organize effective support for our business community. The

Texas Association of Business is working on the upcoming special session of the Texas Legislature to

support the passing of the following priorities:

FLOOD WARNING SYSTEMS: Legislation to improve early warning systems and other preparedness

infrastructure in flood-prone areas throughout Texas.

FLOOD EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS: Legislation to strengthen emergency communications and

other response infrastructure in flood-prone areas throughout Texas.

RELIEF FUNDING FOR HILL COUNTRY FLOODS: Legislation to provide relief funding for response to and

recovery from the storms which began in early July 2025, including local match funding for jurisdictions

eligible for FEMA public assistance.

NATURAL DISASTER PREPARATION & RECOVERY: Legislation to evaluate and streamline rules and

regulations to speed preparedness for and recovery from natural disasters.

For any Gillespie County businesses that have been negatively affected by the heavy rain since the July

4th weekend the Fredericksburg Chamber is hosting the Small Business Administration on July 30 to

explain the different emergency funding options for small businesses. To get more information, please

go to Chamber website www.fbgtxchamber.org and click on “Events,” then “Chamber Events” to bring

up the calendar. This is a free event. Additionally, the SBA will meet one on one with businesses after

the presentation.
