Description
The Blessing of the Grapes is a cherished tradition in the Eastern Orthodox Church celebrated each year on the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (August 6). During this service, grapes and other first fruits of the harvest are brought to the church to be blessed, offering thanks to God for His abundant provision and asking His continued blessing upon the coming harvest. The custom reflects the biblical practice of presenting the first fruits to God in gratitude, recognizing that every good gift comes from Him. Our Blessing of the Grapes at Whatley Wines is an extension of this ancient feast of the Church, bringing this beautiful Orthodox tradition into the heart of the Texas Hill Country. We invite everyone – Orthodox Christians, neighbors, visitors, and wine enthusiasts alike – to join us as we offer prayers of thanksgiving and ask God’s blessing upon our local vineyards and wineries.
